Traditional smoking ceremony signals
the beginning of Majura Defence project

DDR recently undertook a fencing and civil project at Majura Training Area, used primarily by the Australian Army, in the ACT

DDR Australia and other teams working on Defence’s recent Majura Training Area (MTA) fencing and civil project began works by holding a traditional Aboriginal smoking ceremony. The ceremony was conducted onsite by representatives of the Ngunnawal peoples, Traditional Owners of the Majura region, enabling a connection between the wider project team to the Country upon which the works will be completed.

Existing fencing at the MTA was replaced with new, category 2 security fencing. Regrading and maintenance works were also undertaken to 20 kilometres of fire trails and service roads within the Majura site. This was done to ensure the safety of those using them as they had previously been in a poor and unsafe condition.
